With the introduction of the NSW Affordable Rental House SEPP, many landowners are gaining great returns by building a granny flat in their backyard.
However the planning laws can be quite strict when it comes to the land a granny flat can be built on, and in this property's case, there were several issues that prevented the owner from building a granny flat.
As the client was adamant on building, we dug deeper into the state planning instruments and legislations, and found that building a studio is much easier, and its legislated description had an almost identical definition to a granny flat.
