Teachers Mutual Bank
Homebush

Design Approach

The bank's front entry was in dire need of a redesign, as it was not conducive for disabled access. And an existing but disused fire stair dominates the front of the building, taking up much of the useable space.

The brief was to simply construct a ramp for disabled access next to the entry stair and install a small lift inside the building, but after a few design iterations, it was clear the best option is to demolish the dominant fire stair, and install in its place a new lift providing access to all levels of the building, as well as acting as an entry facade.

Now the building has a much more distinct and visually appealing entry for all patrons
